Groove #4: Another One Bites The Dust
In the fourth part of #7EssentialGrooves we will be learning the groove famously heard on the song “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen. Just as we added 8th notes to My Name Is to create the groove Billie Jean in the previous post, we can add 8th notes to Dirty Mind to make the groove “Another One Bites the Dust”.
ADDING 8TH NOTES
Figure 4-1 shows the “four on the floor” groove we learnt for Dirty Mind:

Notice how in Figure 4-2 we have simply added an extra stroke on the hi-hat between each beat. This is the “Another One Bites The Dust” groove.

PLAY-ALONG WITH THE TRACK OR A CLICK
Once again, play through the primer exercises #1-5 along with the slowed down track or a click to make sure you have an even pulse at all times. Remember accuracy is more important than speed. Try to match your sound with Roger Taylor’s on the record.
USE THE 4,2,1 SYSTEM
You can also try using the 4,2,1 system (Figure 4-3) to make sure you can effortlessly switch between playing the snare and bass drum.
