Got To Get You Into My Life

This has got to be one of my all time favourite songs! Earth, Wind & Fire's cover of the Beatles "Got To Get You Into My Life" is one of the few times a cover version has become more famous than the original song... And for a cover of a Beatles song that's saying something.

There's so much fantastic drumming in this song. I love the swung hi-hats in the introduction, catching the syncopated hits with the brass. And when the groove finally drops in it's sheer bliss! The shuffle groove is so triplety (did I just make that word up?) I’ve written the groove out in 12/8, but it could equally have been written as “swung” 8th notes.

Drummer Ralph Johnson plays some tasty fills throughout the song setting up the brass on the third triplet (the "ahs")... I'll make a video on how to play this sooooon....
